In Texas Holdem, the first step is to get the game started, and for this the players put out a particular amount of money. ‘Posting the blinds’ is the frequently used expression for this play. In the next step, the dealer shuffles the cards and gives out 2 cards face down to each player. A normal deck of fifty two cards is used. Then there is the initial sequence of wagering. This round is typically referred to as a "pre-flop".
Following the first wagering round, the first card is tossed aside. This thrown away card is the "burn card", and this is performed to ensure there is absolutely no cheating. The next three cards are then revealed face up on the poker table. These cards are referred to as ‘the flop’. Now follows a second round of wagering, after that the croupier throws away a further card and deals one more card onto the table. Following this, competitors can utilize the sixth card to form a five-card poker hand.
Another sequence of betting follows, and in many types of poker, here is where the bet amount doubles. There is a further round of throwing away a card, and a final deal of a card face-up on the table. This is referred to as the "river". Gamblers can now use any of the 5 cards on the poker table, and/or the two cards in their pocket, to assemble a 5card poker hand.
To wrap it up there’s a last round of wagering. After that, all the players remaining begin to reveal their hands. This is known as the "showdown". Obviously, the bettor who has the highest hand is the winner. When competitors have tied hands a splitting of the winnings is considered.
Holdem is a simple game to learn, but to acquire expertise one needs a fair amount of studying.
