Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
