Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
