Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
