Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players around the world. While wagering on web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
