No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
