Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed taking part in various card games when he was young. He found himself getting really competitive in these particular card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little while and headed to New York to play some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he played countless hours and lost most times. He earned some additional cash by being an runner for the poker players. He believed he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention more on the game.
The real improvement in his abilities began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would often compete against one another. He was able to access a number of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his logical thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. She is one of the best female players the poker arena today. He headed to Sin City in 1993 and competed in money games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
