Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
