Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
